Natural gas-fired combined-cycle power plant 445 MW
Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (Member of Nama Group), the sole procurer of all new power generation and water desalination capacity in the Sultanate, signed a number of agreements to establish Salalah Independent Power Plant (Phase 2). A consortium of Mitsui & Co, ACWA Power, and Dhofar International Development and Investment Holding Co has been awarded the contract to design, build, operate and manage the new plant. The new natural gas-fired combined cycle power plant (which is due to begin operations by January 2018) will have an installed capacity of 445 MW and will be located at Salalah Industrial Area in southern Oman. Under the deal, the consortium will also acquire the existing Dhofar Power Plant, which has an output of 273MW, and operate both plants and sell power to OPWP under a 15-year power purchase agreement at a cost worth over RO 240 million. The plant will use four GE 6FA gas turbines.
